International Students Present 3 Flags to celebrate the 2008 Olympics |
|
Year 8 and 9 students Luke, Wilson and Anton wave the flag to celebrate the Olympics 2008. Xian student Seven Liu spoke about the significance of the three flags in front of the school assembly and presented school principal, Mr Tobin, with the three flags.
Seven's speech was very thoughtful and was indicative of the close relationship that Merrimac enjoys with China.
On behalf of the Chinese students in the school I would like to present to you these three flags:
• I give you the Australian flag because we are living in Australia and along with all Merrimac students wish the Australian team good luck.
• I give you the Chinese flag because this is our national flag and the flag of the host nation. Our Chinese team is very strong and as a nation we are all very proud of our country.
• Lastly, I give you the flag of the Beijing Olympics because this is the flag that every country on Earth will compete under for the 10 days.
