It is now time for students to make a decision about the pathway they will choose in the senior years at Merrimac and in the immediate years beyond their Year 12. The first part of this process will be to attend the Year 11 Course of Study parent and student information evening being held on Tuesday 15 August 2017 at 7:30pm in the Hall to outline post-school pathways of university entry, vocational pathways or employment. (Please note that TAFE, University and Faculty stands will be on display from 6:45pm on this evening for your viewing and queries).

Students will have a guided choice as to whether they will study one of four pathways. The first is the traditional OP for entry to university, the second pathway is university study via the select rank process, the third is to plan a program of study which will lead to a VET qualification and the forth pathway is to actively seek a school based apprenticeship or traineeship as a means of entering the workforce.

State wide, 33% of students will be offered a place in University study at the end of their Year 12. This equates to the top third of academic performers throughout the state. Life, after Year 12 is increasingly competitive and opportunities are dependent upon prior academic achievement.

Many of our students in their senior years find a great sense of personal fulfilment when they complete Vocational Education Qualifications and are ready for work when they leave Merrimac.

In keeping with the commitment of Merrimac State High School to ensure your student is best placed to make a wise decision we ask that students complete the online Senior Education & Training (SET) Plan and you discuss their preferred career pathway.

We have appointed individual staff to meet with yourself and your son/daughter to guide the Year 11 subject selection. Please book a 30 minute meeting time with your assigned staff member via our online booking system. You will receive a personalised letter indicating which staff member has been assigned to you and a link to the booking site can be found on the front page of our school website. The link will open for bookings at 9am on 7 August and will close on Wednesday 16 August 2017 at 9am. Appointment times are available from 16 August - 18 August 2017 inclusive. If you have difficulty with this process or cannot access the internet please phone during school hours on 5595 8666 for assistance

We look forward to meeting with you to assist with this important decision making process.
