Computers and technology

The ICT learning adopted by Merrimac State High School reflects a whole school approach to modern learning in Queensland. It captures the energy, commitment and resources invested by schools, the community and industry in a framework that focuses on improving the life chances of all learners at our school.

ICT infrastructure

Merrimac State High School has a modern digital learning environment which has an industry standard Local Area Network (LAN) configuration with a high-speed 50 Mbps fibre connection to the EQ WAN/Internet. Our school currently operates one MOE network with 4 servers distributing information and data to over 1000 devices.

MOE network – Managed Operating Environment

  • Over 1000 desktop and laptop computers
  • 1 full-time computer lab and up to 1400 BYO devices for all students (Yr 7 - 12)
  • 19 networked curriculum printers
  • Each student has their own unique login and own email account (which is filtered to ensure security and safety)
  • Access to the Internet for educational purposes
  • Access to industry standard software
  • Separate managed wireless network dedicated to BYO devices

ICT learning tools and peripherals

  • Data projectors and wall mounted speakers to all class rooms
  • 24 student accessible digital cameras
  • 4 SLR digital cameras – teacher’s use
  • 11 video cameras including 6 Flip video compact cameras
  • ClickView media server
  • SharePoint managed intranet
  • Wireless network infrastructure with 96 access points (one in each learning area)
  • 1 to 1 laptops for staff to develop curriculum
  • iPads for Year Co-ordinators

ICT support

  • 1 full-time ICT support technicians to manage network and assist users

Software packages

Industry standard software is employed to prepare students for the world of work. We currently have licenses covering various Microsoft software packages (including Windows 8.1 and Office 365), Adobe Creative Cloud, and Autodesk Suite. Individual teaching areas and administration also have licences for Microsoft Visio Professional 2013, SMART Notebook, Inspiration, MYOB, Lego Robotics and much more.
