Merrimac State High Schools STEAM Academy Robotics students are THE BEST IN AUSTRALIA!
Last weekend 4 teams from Merrimac State High School competed at the 2022 Australian Vex National Finals in Adelaide. After dominating performances at the Queensland State finals held late last year and taking out the national senior division Excellence Award in 2021, the pressure was on to maintain Merrimac State High School’s reputation as being one of the best STEM and robotics schools in Australia.
Our 4 teams didn’t disappoint. The 3 teams from year 9 competing in the middle years division and a team of year 11 students competing in the senior division held their nerve over the two-day competition. Not only did the senior team retain the senior Excellence award division title but the year 9 teams also adding the middle years Excellence division title to our banner collection and in the process made Merrimac State High School, Australia’s best for both Middle and Senior year divisions.
Congratulations the following students on a massive effort.
• Curran Gibbes and Ethan Skipsey who won the Excellence Award and Tournament Teamwork Champions for Middle Year Division
• Andre Chang and David Webb who won the Skills Challenge category as well as Tournament Teamwork Champions for Middle year division
• Kotaro Mori and Tayla Pattison who won the judges award
• Blake Shackley, Jamie Robertson, Aidan Windleborn, Ella Stewart, and Kira Budai who won the Excellence Award in the senior division.
Huge congratulations also to Mr Dan Ricardo for winning Teacher of The Year.
We are all very proud of you and good luck representing Merrimac State High School and Australia at the 2022 Vex World Championship held in Dallas, Texas in May this year.
