A huge congratulations goes to recent Merrimac graduates Jaden Gibbons, Siaan Peterson, Ian Tan, Liliana Martin-Rampton, Jordan Hughes and Maya Wood on their outstanding performance at the VEX National Robotics Championships this month.
Their stellar display of intelligence, committment and teamwork saw them take home the Excellence Award and Design Award, and after holding onto the number one randing all day (surpassing the scores of some of the most prestigious schools in Australia), the team dominated the qualifying round to become Tournament Finalists.
The event was highly anticipated given it had been postponed from December to March owing to COVID-19.
Carrying the hopes of our remaining six STEAM Academy Robotics teams (who qualified through the Queensland finals last year and unfortunately were unable to travel due to COVID) our senior team did not disappoint.
The group now qualifies to represent Australia in never-before-seen virtual World Championships in the coming months. We are extremely proud of their achievements and wish them the best of luck for this next part of the competition.
In the meanwhile, the STEAM Academy is preparing for a big year ahead, working on being able to present a full-strength roster to this year's Queensland and National finals. Congratulations to all those involved in STEAM on the continually impressive results.
